HEADCANON

dbd:
x when he first arrives at the campfire, he sleeps like the fucking dead. waking him up is a godtier challenge for weeks until his body acclimates and he realizes there is more to fear than just Freddy. after, he still gets as much sleep as he can, but it's lighter, more easily disturbed.

x some thoughts on how i like to play injuries/healing/death: accelerated healing is a constant in this universe, and it's always the same speed in or out of trials. you're going to be hard-pressed to find an injury that lasts more than a couple of days left unattended unless you're in a dying state. dying states can only be healed by others. others can all so speed up the healing process--MUCH MORE in trials than out of them. if you leave a trial with an injury, you're going to have to sit with it a bit. if you try to heal it too fast, you might heal it wrong and have to reopen/rebreak whatever thing you were trying to heal. if you're in a dying state and you die, you come back a day later with a death hangover.

x campfires: i like to play with multiple campfires in the amorphous "woods". there's a big one that the game centers around, but there may be others. you could even build one if you wanted. you could survive trials and long nights alone without ever meeting some people.

x when it comes to facing freddy, other survivors will know full well that quentin tends to either meltdown or go extra hard. i like to headcanon that freddy will rarely, RARELY hook quentin, preferring to put him in a dying state and have him watch while freddy cleans house, yukking it up most of the time, dragging it out as long as he can until the entity drags quentin out or he dies. freddy might kill him personally, but only if quentin has managed to be a particular pain in his asshole that trial. #itscomplicated

x Freddy is able to infiltrate Quentin's dreams outside of trial, but the situation has to be just right: Quentin has to be asleep, and Freddy has to have the attention and energy to go find him. this does not happen very often, but it's nasty when it does.

x will never, never, never abandon a teammate during a trial. known to pull stupid shit to get people out, run interference, and go out of his way to annoy or embarrass a killer

x quentin is very idealistic and will have a hard time accepting that killers have any good in them at all. i want to challenge and correct this idea, but please lmk if you want to tag but don't want negative CR re killers and I'll happily fastforward some character growth

nightmare on elm:
x being the son of a guidance counselor doesn't make him a better academic; his grades struggle despite his intelligence. he only manages because swim team is the only thing keeping him sane.

x because of the time he's spent with and without Nancy learning to negotiate Freddy, Quentin is a functional dream warrior. he has limited control of his dreams and generally has the option to try to outrun/outwit Freddy.
