CHARACTER INFORMATION

✘ Name: Quentin Smith
✘ Canon: A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010), Dead by Daylight
✘ Canon Point: Dead by Daylight, after he's been stuck there for a while
✘ Age: ~23 years, it was hard for him to tell time in the Fog

✘ History: [cw: child sexual abuse] As a preschooler, Quentin and his fellow students were preyed on and sexually abused by the school's groundskeeper, Freddy Kreuger. Their parents began comparing notes--stories and injuries from the children--and discovered what was going on. Rather than subjecting their sons and daughters to the trauma or stigma they associated with the court system, the parents enacted vigilante justice, burning Freddy Kreuger alive. No one ever spoke about the incident again, an attempt to drive the memory out of their childrens' heads.

It worked for years. But in highschool, Quentin and his classmates started having dreams about Freddy, now a dream demon that attacked them in their sleep, leaving very real wounds. As they dreamed more about him and talked more about him, he grew in power until he started killing kids in their sleep. Quentin fought for his life with a little help: his longstanding crush on Nancy Holbrook, Freddy's favorite victim, gave him all the more reason to keep alive so that he could protect her. Working together, they pulled Freddy out of a dream and killed him to death. Mostly.

While Quentin recovered from the fight in the hospital, Freddy's spirit rallied for one last attack, killing Nancy's mother.

(Canon isn't specific about what happens to Nancy, but I usually headcanon that Nancy was institutionalized, which prevented her from joining Quentin for what follows.)

Baffled and enraged, Quentin escaped the hospital as soon as possible and began a personal crusade to put Freddy down permanently. He studied dream-walking (essentially lucid dreaming) and manipulating his psychic space to give him an edge. He waited for Freddy to regain strength and engaged him in an extended game of cat-and-mouse, eventually leading Freddy back to the horrible preschool basement where it all started to burn his soul and memory out in what would have most likely been a suicide mission.

Quentin's hatred and rage for Freddy drew the attention of the Entity, a multidimenional being sustained by strong emotions. The Entity drew him into its private hell, the Fog, where he and other survivors were forced into fighting for their lives (and sometimes losing them) over and over and over again. When they died, they would be brought back, allowed to recover, then shoved back into trial. When they survived, a spirit of comradery drew them closer together.

Time passed strangely in the Fog, where Quentin came to mark the time mostly by what he learned. With the other survivors and through trial after trial, he honed his skills as a makeshift field medic, team gopher, and general nuisance. Although Freddy Kreuger was pulled in with him like a cosmic stowaway), Quentin's ability to resist Kreuger also grew, bolstered by the efforts of his teammates to drive the demon back.

✘ Personality:

You're assigned a group project. What role do you end up taking?
I can do the boring stuff--research or data entry or like...repetitive processes or whatever. Just don't put me up in front of anybody, I'm not the guy for that.

[ A few seconds of quiet, though, and he's got to add sheepishly: ] But if it's gonna be boring, can I be paired up with someone?

You have the chance to anonymously send a letter to someone who's wronged you in the past. What does it say?
Aha. Ah--nothing I can say would make it very anonymous. Like--where did you go? Why did you fucking ditch your own kid? Were you planning on saying something if I lived past eighteen? I dunno. I dunno, I don't really see the need to hide saying something like that.

At the same time...what's the point in saying something like that? All it would do is make someone miserable. I'll save being a pain in the ass for the people that deserve it, not just the people that wrong me.

Someone you admire very much has just done something you find reprehensible. How do you deal with the situation?
What else is there to do? I take it to them. Everyone's so scared to tell people when they've fucked up, and then nothing gets better. Whatever, I'll tell them. If it's someone I admire, they should be able to take it.

[ To say nothing of his lack of subtlety with this kind of call-out. ]

If you could achieve all your goals right now, what would your life look like?
[ That's tough. He hasn't thought more than a day or two ahead for a very long time. Quentin huffs like this puts him out horrible, arms crossing and uncrossing, knee bouncing. ]
At this point? Fuck. Whatever. I'm--I'm in a house. Or apartment. I'm well-rested. No one's hurt. No one's in trouble. Everything is copacetic and I'm--in school, maybe. College, I wanna go to college.

Someone tells you all your flaws. What did they tell you, and are they right or wrong?
Oh, I mean this happens all the time. Like, people say I'm stupid, or I act stupid. That's true. Mmm...tunnel vision. That's a big one, that one's true. People say I'm reckless--or that I have a death wish, if they're really pissed. I dunno about that one, though, I just--no one's gonna live forever right? If it's between me and someone else, if--if I see the chance to help someone else, that's just the right thing to do. Maybe it's reckless, but it is what it is.

✘ Type: Spiritual

✘ Powers: Because of the nature of his canon, Quentin's abilities are weaker during the day, stronger at night.

Power 1: Sleep It Off - By sleeping in physical contact with another person, Quentin can (purposefully or inadvertently) drain ailments off of them. While he doesn't take one-for-one afflictions (a fever for a fever, a bruise for a bruise), he'll basically have a flu with strength/duration commensurate with the ailment. For example, a scraped knee would give him a morning with the sniffles. Healing a broken finger might leave him in bed for a day or two with chills/fever/misery. Healing a broken arm, a grievous gash, or dire sickness would knock him out for a week.

Power 2: Partial Intangibility - Quentin can use his Spiritual abilities to destabilize parts of his body so that he can pass through solid matter. With practice, he can also manipulate things on the other side of the object. IE: He could reach through a cookie jar and rustle the cookies around inside. He CANNOT take a cookie out. If he does this too often/too long, the body part that he has been phasing will need a break to regain solidity/strength. Rustle too many cookies, and he won't be using that hand for a couple days.

Power 3: Vigil - The more time Quentin spends with a particular person, the more in-tune he is to their aura. Depending on how attuned he is, he can ping their location at a distance if they're experiencing a strong emotion. He's especially sensitive to fear/anger/upset, and these emotions coming from a frequency that he recognizes will reach him even in his sleep. (Functionally, this would only work on a case-by-case basis with permission from the other player.)
